Election Day is now scheduled for Tuesday, June 9th. Please vote “Yes” for the volunteer fire levy! According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), approximately 82% of fire departments in the United States are either all volunteer or mostly volunteer. Volunteer fire departments rely on community support, such as fundraisers and levies, to provide service in the community. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has made fundraising difficult if not impossible. The volunteer fire levy is a critical source of funding for volunteer fire departments in Monongalia County, and without it, many may not be able to continue operations.

The WV PEERS initiative was created by representatives of the WVU School of Public Health (WVU Injury Control Research Center and Safe Communities Initiative); Psimed Morgantown; Monongalia County Courts; WVU Collegiate Recovery; WVU School of Medicine; Morgantown Sober Living, Inc. and Ascension Recovery Services.

The WV PEERS program has been developed and implemented through a collaboration between Morgantown Sober Living, Inc.; WVU Health Sciences; and multiple Monongalia County community partners in emergency health care, law enforcement, court system, treatment and recovery programs, and harm reduction programs, in an effort to help reduce morbidity and mortality related to substance use disorder in Monongalia County. This week we celebrate Telecommunicator Week. They are unsung heroes of emergency services. From all of us at Star City Fire & EMS, we thank you. A special thanks to those we work with closely at MECCA and WVU Medical Command.

Members of the community stopped by this morning and left us a little message. Having the support of our community is what gets us through these difficult time. We won’t forget.

WV receiving its first confirmed case of COVID-19 was inevitable. Our EMS Division is on the front lines everyday working along side our friends at Mon EMS to provide safe and effective transportation of those in need during this difficult time. We are in constant communication with the Mon County Health Dept and the CDC utilizing best practices and most up to date guidelines.

As we move forward in the next several days and weeks to come remember all the first responders in Monongalia County that come to work every day, without fail, to serve our community. Most ambulances and fire trucks don’t fit through drive-throughs adding new challenges to what will be our normal for a while.
