9/28/2016: At approximately 0130 Company 20 was alerted as 3rd due engine company to assist Company 12 for a confirmed structure fire at Woodland Terrace Village. Engine 201 responded with 6 personnel and upon arriving on scene found a trailer with heavy fire to the front of the structure. Due to the remote location of the incident Engine 201 ran (1) 2 1/2 inch supply line to Engine 123  per engineer’s request and established relay water supply operations with Tanker 172. Company 20 personnel were able to make an aggressive interior fire attack via a second hose line from Engine 123 and conduct a primary search. After fire extinguishment SCVFD members assisted in overhaul operations until cleared by incident command to return to service.

9/21/2016: Company 20 was alerted 4th due to assist River Road VFD with a confirmed structure fire on Glory Barn Road. Engine 201 responded with 5 personnel and upon arriving on scene assisted with extinguishing hot spots and overhaul operations as directed by incident command. SCVFD units remained on scene for approximately two hours before being cleared by incident command to return to service.

9/19/2016: Company 20 was alerted to the intersection of Suncrest Towne Centre Drive and Route 705 for a two vehicle rear-end type MVC with heavy front end damage. Squad 203 and Unit 202 responded and while en-route received updates from MECCA 911 of possible fire in one vehicle and questionable access issues to a patient. MON EMS arrived on scene without access issues to the patient and found no fire present at time of arrival. Upon arriving on scene Squad 203, Unit 202 and their crews gained traffic control/set-up safety zone for emergency personnel, stood by for fire suppression, assisted with patient care, and provided fluid and debris mitigation. One patient was transported via ambulance and one patient was treated on scene as a result of the incident.

While on the road remember to be mindful of your surroundings, DO NOT drive or allow anyone you are riding with to drive distracted, DO NOT drive under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol and ALWAYS WEAR YOUR SEATBELT.

7/31/2016: At 0904 this morning Company 20 was alerted to assist Cassville VFD for a commercial structure fire on Blue Horizon Drive. Engine 201 and Squad 203 responded to the incident and upon arriving on scene were tasked by Co. 13 command with various fire attack and ventilation tasks. First arriving company 13 and 20 crews made an aggressive interior fire attack which resulted in a quick knockdown of the bulk of the fire and allowed the owners to salvage a large amount of personal and business belongings. Companies 11, 13, 17 and 20 as well as Greene County PA Co. 18 were all dispatched/present on scene. After extensive salvage and overhaul all companies were able to clear and return to service in approximately three and a half hours.

7/26/2016: At 03:26am Company 20 was alerted as mutual aid for a structure fire on Prince Road. First arriving units found heavy fire from the structure which was a single family log home with multiple additions. Upon arrival Company 20 units were tasked by incident command to assist with fire attack on 2nd and 3rd divisions of the structure. During fire attack all crews had difficulty finding extension and hot spots due to the voids made by the multiple additions present throughout the structure. Also due to the remote location of the structure multiple units from multiple companies were needed to contain the incident. In total Engine 141, Engine 123, Engine 155, Engine 160, Tanker 164, Engine 173, Engine 201, Utility 202, Tanker 213, Utility 231, Medic 73, Rehab 60 from Monongalia County, Reedsville VFD and Bruceton-Brandonville VFD from Preston County and Smithfield VFC and Point Marion VFC from Fayette County, PA were dispatched to the incident. The fire was declared under control at 05:36am.

7/9/16: Company 20 was alerted 3rd due to assist companies 23 and 17 on Monongahela Avenue in Westover for a confirmed multi-story structure fire. First arriving units reported a working three story residential structure fire with noticeable fire in the basement. Upon arrival SCVFD units (Engine 201, Command 206 and Unit 202) were tasked by incident command to make forced entry/search of the structure and assist with secondary extinguishment of the fire. Luckily it was quickly determined that the structure was unoccupied and all efforts could be focused on containment and attack of the fire. With the coordinated efforts of all personnel on scene the fire was isolated to the basement and single room of the structure. Company 20 crews remained on scene to assist with salvage and overhaul until cleared by incident command to return to service.

7/3/16: Company 20 was alerted to assist companies 17 and 23 with a confirmed mobile home fire on Kent Street in Granville. SCVFD units Engine 201, Command 206 and Unit 202 responded to the incident and were alerted by first arriving Co. 17 units that the structure was well involved upon their arrival. During the incident two occupants were treated and transported to local hospitals with burns, smoke inhalation and lacerations. Unfortunately, despite the swift actions of all units involved in the incident the trailer was declared a total loss and one dog was deceased on scene.  SCVFD units continued to complete fireground tasks assigned by Co. 17 command until they were cleared to return to service after about an hour.

6/21/16: At 1708 hours Company 20 was dispatched for an exterior balcony fire at Pinnacle Heights apartments. First arriving units advised of a working structure fire, with possible entrapment. After a primary search, it was determined that there was negative entrapment, and one dog and one cat had been able to escape the fire conditions. The fire was found on the back balcony and had extended to the attic. A quick knockdown by fire crews contained the damage to a small portion of the apartment building.

Company 20 would like to thank the members of Engine 123, Engine 135, Ladder 133, Engine 141, Utility 144, Engine 173, Engine 175, Engine 233, Utility 231, Mon EMS Medic 64, and Point Marion, PA Company 33 for their assistance.

While crews were operating on scene of this fire, Engine 147 handled an automatic fire alarm for Company 20 on Poplar Woods Drive.

6/9/16: Members of Companies 20 and 16 along with Monongalia County H.I.R.T and Monongalia County EMS were dispatched to Earl L. Core Road/Tyrone Road to assist Company 12 with a Heavy Rescue involving a tri-axle dump truck over an embankment approximately 30 feet into a creek. Crews on scene were directed by incident command to perform multiple tasks including traffic control, stabilization of the vehicle, patient care, extrication and packaging of the driver, leaking fluid mitigation and hazmat operations. Thanks to the actions of all crews on scene the incident was managed quickly and efficiently with all companies returned to service without incident.

4/23/16: At approximately 0330 Company 20 was alerted 3rd due to respond with Companies 23, 17, and 19 for a commercial/restaurant fire at Colasante’s Restaurant. This was the second working structure fire for the members of Company 20 within the past 24 hours. All companies on scene worked diligently to contain and extinguish the fire which resulted in minimal fire and smoke damage to the restaurant and bar portion of the structure. However, crews on scene also had to work to extinguish fire in an apartment and small office that was attached to the restaurant which was heavily damaged during the incident. Colasante’s restaurant is family owned and has been a mainstay of the greater Morgantown community for over 40 years. During interviews with local news crews after the incident the Colasante family have made intentions to rebuild and reopen the restaurant as soon as they can. Units remained on scene until the early morning hours to complete extinguishment of primary fire and hot spots, salvage and overhaul before returning to service.
